Closest thing to a resumé that you’ll get from me
My name is Kierra Diggle, I am an artist based out of Chemainus BC, Vancouver Island. @digglestattoos
Another kid with crayons in their hands all the time. Infatuated with reading and creating worlds, I found myself integrating my artwork and my experience very early on.
Around the age of 11, I started taking myself seriously, pursuing art classes and specifically, studying realism. It wasn’t long until I was then volunteering teaching art at The Neighbourhood Art Studios. Excelling in colour realism, specifically portraits, human and animal.
Murals started to creep onto my bedroom walls, which soon became my portfolio to large scale, mural painting. Hired from restaurants, to nurseries, I have helped curate atmosphere and aesthetic of local businesses and homes. Both Indoor, and Outdoor.
My interest was sparked after taking a high school Animations course, which I took home to study and learn the interfaces and the fundamentals, of 3D Animation. This completely redirected my art style. Here, around the age of 14, I began rewiring how I drew, how I thought. How to bring personality and storytelling into an illustration. How to utilize exaggeration and contrast to provoke feeling. How to find my voice, and what I had to say. Ambitious and inspired, I graduated high school a year early to enroll in Capilano University’s 3D Animations Diploma program as fast as I could. Funny enough I was most interested in the Coding. I learned extensive Character Design, Storyboarding, Writing, Modelling, Animations, Lighting and Rendering, Directing, Cinematography, Rigging, and Coding. I practice 2D Animations presently.
Despite my desired interest, and commitment to my education, in the summer of 2021, at the age of 19, I started a Tattoo Apprenticeship in White Rock, BC. After getting tattooed and spending years developing my own illustrative style, my heart had always been enamored by the industry. My apprenticeship was a traditional and intensive education, putting my entirety into learning the culture, history, and classic styles of tattooing. I studied and continue to challenge myself in any and all styles of tattooing. Specifically, Japanese tattooing and Art Nouveau illustration have most predominantly inspired my current artwork. I began tattooing fulltime on January 11, 2022, and love it immensely to this day. I have worked all over Vancouver Island, the Mainland, Fraser Valley and the Okanagan, including conventions and fundraisers. I currently work in Vancouver Island, at a Walk-In Tattoo Shop in Chemainus, BC, called The Lost Eye Tattoo.
Over the last 5 years, I have taught myself additionally graphic design, having previously worked for Rutherford Media. Anything from logos, to infographics, to simple website building, my digital portfolio expands.
Additionally, through friendships and my interest in local community, I started to work with locals bands and musicians to create affordable posters, album and cover art, and merchandise. I am very fortunate to work amongst such talented people, and cherish how we can collaborate.
Last but certainly not the least, over the last 3 years, The Trampitheater, a Live Music Stage, Living Room and Speakeasy, has adopted me as one of their Deco Team Leads. This project has given me a magnitude of opportunity through visual interior and decorative design, drapery, visual artistry and mural painting. They are responsible for sparking my love for hand painting signage. I run fundraisers and events throughout the year to help raise money for our installation, including flash days, bazaars, and concerts.
It is a blessing to create art as my job, always beyond grateful. Thank you.
